Lincolnshire 4x4 Response spent the weekend of 1st/2nd/3rd of July providing logistic support to the team at Cancer Research UK at Clumber Park for their annual Race for Life event. We deployed 7 vehicles and 10 responders to help set up, marshal and provide off road transport.
Approximately 8000 ladies all dressed in pink participated over the weekend. The weather was good to us with only the occasional shower which we all found quite refreshing! We provided moral support and encouragement for all taking part and no one could fail not be touched by the personal messages and stories on the runners entry numbers. A reminder that cancer will touch us all in some way.
One of our vehicles took a runner with a sprained ankle from the First Aid post to her car in the car park as she was unable to walk, plus we would like to make a special mention for LN 4x4 Responders Jackie and Roger, who sprang into action when one lady taking part became unwell but was determined to finish the race, so they drove her the last 2k and then yards from the finishing line helped her out the vehicle and supported her while she crossed the line. Well done.
Thank you to the team at CRUK and a big well done to the Pink Army. Heroes really do wear trainers.
